What is the Menopause?

Medically, “the menopause is when a woman stops having periods and is no longer able to get pregnant naturally. This typically occurs between the age of 45 and 55 as a women’s oestrogen levels decline”. Some women may go through the menopause without experiencing too many problems, however for some, the symptoms can be quite severe and have a profound impact on both body and mind. Symptoms of the menopause include hot flushes, night sweats, headaches, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, aches and pains, bladder problems, sore breasts, vaginal dryness, reduced libido, low mood, anxiety, irritability, problems with memory and concentration, hair loss and skin changes.”

Evening primrose oil produces a rich oil, associated with female health, especially for menopause symptoms, including uncomfortable hot flushes.



For massage

Apply oil to the temples, neck, forehead, soles of the feet and pulse points until well absorbed.


For bath time

Add a few drops of oil to a hot bath making sure not to add directly under a hot tap.  Draw the bath first and before getting in add the oil and relax, as you soak up the goodness.


  • Some ways to ease symptoms are to wear natural fabrics that breathe
  • Carry a foldable fan with you to help cool down, not to fight the flush and try to relax if you can,
  • Use cotton sheets, and wear lightweight cotton or silk to bed or don’t wear anything at all.
  • Drink less coffee and alcohol, and avoid spicy food; especially late at night, as they can make flushes and sweats worse.
